The Sign
The original sign was erected in 1993, designed by Alan Fitch and made by Keith Turner. This sign has been replaced a couple of times, but retaining the same theme with a slightly different design. The main theme is the "Fawn tree" under which John Eldred the Alderman of the City of London and merchant sat whilst reading. He also introduced nutmeg into the country, which has been depicted on top of the sign. The tree is flanked by two twites which represents Twite Corner where the sign is located.

The Name and Population
The parish was merged with Little Saxham and part of Risby in 1988 to form the Saxhams with a population of 286 at the 2011 census. It was called Saxham, Sexham in 1086 and became Saxham Magna (Great) in1254. The name means "The village of the Saxons", from Old English.
