Westleton

The Sign
A simple sign depicting the old post mill which was demolished in 1963; one of the sail beams is being used as the post for the village sign and one of the millstones has been placed at the signs base. There was another two mills in the village which have now both disappeared. The sign is located at the northern end of the village green. The sign was designed by Dr. W.T. Boul and made by Mr. Pearce and erected in 1963 by the Westleton Carnival Committee.

The Name and Population
The population was 349 at the 2011 census. The village was called Westletuna/Westeldestuna in the Domesday Book of 1086. The name means "Vestlithi's farm/settlement" from Norse and Old English.

Minsmere RSPB reserve is close by, where Spring watch has been filmed from.

The Crown pub was once a 12th century coaching inn.
