The Sign
The village sign is located at a crossroads in the centre and consists of a millstone with the village name and commemoration carved on the front. It was erected in 2001.

The Name and Population
The population was measured at 182 in the 2011 census. It had several names in 1086, Burc, Burcg and Burh and was called Burg in 1175. The name comes from Old English, meaning "fortified place or stronghold". The name refers to the banked enclosure and Roman villa site here.

There is no parish council here.

The church is dedicated to St Botolph and has an offset west tower to the south of the nave.
