Cransford
The Sign
A simple wrought iron village sign made by Mary Moore and Terry Pearce from Brandeston Forge and designed by the villagers. The sign was erected in 2000 to celebrate the Millennium. There is a cross on top representing the church of St Peter. The main theme is the crane standing in a shallow part of the river Alde surrounded by a tree and reeds.
The Name and Population
The population of the village was 162 at the 2011 census. The village was called Craneforda with variants in 1086. The name means "Crane ford" from Old English.
Other Points of Interest
The church has been much altered in Victorian times with little historical interest left.
