Nacton
The Sign
The sign was made locally at Jacob's Forge, Kirton. Home Farm assisted in its installation and members of the parish council worked hard, digging out for the base and cementing the base ready for the post and sign. It was erected on 7th March 2024, located in Victoria Field.
The Name and Population
The village was called Nachetuna in 1086 and Naketun in 1233. It probably means "The estate or farmstead of a man called Hnaki", from Old English with an Old Scandinavian personal name. The population was 757 at the 2011 census.

The church is dedicated to St Martin, close to the massive gates of Orwell Park, standing in the grounds.
Orwell Park was an estate in the village of Nacton in Suffolk developed by Edward Vernon, who lived there from 1725 until he died in the mansion on 30 October 1757. It was further developed by George Tomline during the late nineteenth century. It has been the premises for Orwell Park School since 1936. In contains several Grade II listed buildings.
