Wetherden

The Sign
The weathered wooden sign stands outside the church, which is also represented on the sign as well as other village buildings and Wetherden Hall. A ploughed field can be seen in the top left and along with the sheep in front of the church, represent agriculture in the area. The arms of the Sulyard Family can be seen in the left spandrel with the de Granville arms in the right spandrel, who were the Lords of the Manor beforehand.

The sign was designed by Stefan Oliver and erected in 1987 by the Gardening Club.

The Name and Population
The population of the village was around 540 at the 2011 census. It was recorded in the Domesday Book as Watdena or Wederdena. The name comes from the word "Wether" meaning castrated sheep and "dena" meaning a valley.
