The Name and Population
Yoxford is a village in East Suffolk straddling the A12 road from Lowestoft to Ipswich. The village name is probably derived from the Old English word “geoc-ford” indicating that the ford across the river was wide enough for a yoke of oxen to pass through. It was known as Lokesfort in the Domesday Book. The population was recorded as 726 at the 2011 census.
